We will always remember 9-11.
Today marks the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. More than 3,000 innocent people tragically lost their lives that day when hijacked planes flew into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field outside of Pennsylvania. Our country was heartbroken, but we gained strength as a nation through love, hope and unity.
Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance honors the memory of these men, women and children, and the brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

CURRICULUM NIGHT
Thank you teachers and parents for a wonderful curriculum night at Long Meadow! Our teachers were so excited and proud to see our parents at curriculum night. They were looking forward to the opportunity for our community to get to know them, talk about curriculum and the digital platform they are using, and show they love for our kids. We feel so blessed to have an engaged and caring community.

Whether you are enrolled in RCS virtual campus or f2f/remote, we are dedicated to supporting EVERYONE. We have a new virtual tool for sign up this year: https://longmeadowpta.membershiptoolkit.com/ Remember, even if you were a member last year, we need you to resign up again for this school year. You can even pay your dues right from the website this year! We look forward to hearing from you and virtually seeing you all at our first meeting on September 16th.

Hello Families,
We enjoyed getting to connect with your students this week through grade level introduction Zooms! Specials classes will begin next week and we wanted to reach out and let you know how you can expect your child to meet with us. Please see the attached rotation schedule which will help you understand live and recorded lessons. While your child’s lessons will be recorded every other week, it is still important that they complete the lesson/activity because the following week’s live lesson will build upon previous. Your child’s teacher will inform you of their specific schedule.
We are working to directly import your students into our Google Classrooms so you won’t have to worry about joining them. These will appear directly on your child’s Google Classroom “landing page.” You will find all Zoom links, videos, and resources in the Google Classroom.
When we met with students this week, we encouraged them to print out our Bitmoji’s and take us along for some fun! (Similar to Flat Stanley’s Adventures!) Please find our Bitmoji’s attached for your reference. You do not NEED to print these out, but if you would like to play along and have fun, we would love to see where we come along to! Please email us if you have any photos.

POSITIVITY PROJECT AT LONG MEADOW

We are so excited to be partnering with the Positivity Project again this year.
Starting Monday September 14, all children, grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will introduced Positivity in Action. Starting the following Week September 21, children will be learning about their first character strength.
This year the Positivity project has developed a family resource connection so that you can be part of Positivity in Action at home. Starting the week of September 21, each Wednesday, we will send home the family link for the character trait we are discussing at school. This resource will give families the opportunity to continue enriching discussions at home. The family link will include the definition of the character trait we are learning, a short video to watch as a family, and sample discussion questions to continue learning about Positivity in Action at home.

If your student is unable to attend live zooms during a school day due to an illness or other reason, you may indicate an absence in ParentVue. We have provided instructions below or you can click the link: https://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/pages/141519/parentvue
If your student can attend part of a day, please let the classroom teacher know. You do not need to log an absence via parent view or phone call due to new reporting guidelines.
You may also still leave a message in the front office 248-726-3910. Absences also do not need to be reported on Wednesdays.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
Our RCS social-emotional support teams, which consist of counselors, social workers and psychologists, will be operating in all learning environments, including in-person/temporary remote learning and the RCS Virtual Campus. These highly trained professionals are available for students and families in a variety of settings, and can be contacted through email, in-person or virtual meetings, and phone calls.
Families are invited to take advantage of the student wellness resources that have been compiled in a new website, developed specifically for the RCS community by our RCS teams. This valuable collection of tools provides crisis contacts, family activity ideas, parent resources, book recommendations, coping strategies, and contact information for the counselors and professionals in each school.
