IN-PERSON LEARNING UPDATE

Return To Learn Guide
At this time, students enrolled in in-person learning can expect to return to face-to-face instruction by cohorts using the following phased-in approach.
  • Jan. 25:  Elementary and some special education populations
  • Feb. 1:  Middle school
  • Feb. 8:  High school

Key considerations when creating this timeline included: safety, learning content, contact time, food services, transportation, staffing and stability, along with federal, state and local guidance.

The staggered approach to in-person instruction ensures the smoothest transition possible for our students and provides the opportunity to evaluate processes and make improvements before the next level returns to their building.

All plans remain flexible depending on conditions. We will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 cases within our district so our teams can effectively serve our students. The safety of children and adults remains our priority.

Transition To Hybrid/Cohort Learning Begins on 1/25

Late-start elementary schools are: Brooklands, Long Meadow, McGregor, Meadow Brook, Musson and North Hill. For these schools, the full-day hybrid model for Cohorts A and B is 8:55 a.m. – 3:16 p.m. The full day hybrid model for Cohort C is 8:10 a.m. – 2:16 p.m.

LONG MEADOW PTA & AHS PTA TEAMING UP WITH HELPING HANDS

Remote learning has been hard on a lot of people, especially younger students who benefit from a one on one connection. Our Adams Highlanders have offered to be mentors, tutors, friends and heroes to younger students from our feeder Elementary and Middle schools. We match students with similar interests for one on one Zoom or Google hangs, ideally once a week, but duration and frequency will be determined by the participants. Some student-generated ideas include:
  • Read to/with younger students or create a virtual “book club”
  • Drop materials off in advance and create makey makeys, art projects, crafts or science projects virtually
  • Offer homework assistance and tutoring
  • Share the love of a sport, hobby or musical instrument and “practice” virtually
  • Be a friend - let them know you care. You’ll be surprised by how you can impact a child’s life.
To participate, complete this registration form. We hope to partner students together after the Thanksgiving break. For more information, please contact Kim Kelly at kimedkat@live.com

POSITIVITY PROJECT AT LONG MEADOW

Next Week's Positivity Character Strength: Other People's Mindset - Supporting Others When They Stuggle

Picture
Parents and Guardians,

We are so excited to be partnering with the Positivity Project again this year.
Monday September 21, all children, grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will introduced Positivity characteristic of Other People's Mindset - Supporting Others When They Stuggle.

This year the Positivity project has developed a family resource connection so that you can be part of Positivity in Action at home.   We have provided the one page character card and age appropriate video based on grade.  Feel free to look at the other resources we well.  These resources will give families the opportunity to continue enriching discussions at home. The family link will include the definition of the character trait we are learning, a short video to watch as a family, and sample discussion questions to continue learning about Positivity in Action at home.

Picture
 What is the Positivity Project?
The Positivity Project, also referred to as P2, uses 24 character strengths to help students build positive relationships.  Positive relationships are the cornerstone to health, happiness and resilience.  Each week all children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will be introduced and explicitly taught the same character strength.  Everyone in our Long Meadow family will be provided with the same definition for each character strength.  This common language along with classroom instruction tailored to each grade level, will help to provide students with a deeper understanding of each character trait.  Children will soon be able to “see what the character trait looks like” through the use of videos, books, and discussions.  Children will be able to identify character traits in themselves and others.

We are looking forward to working with families joining with us putting Positivity in Actions. Please see the schedule below.
