During the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free meals. That program ended with the 2021-22 school year.
If your student qualifies for free or reduced meals, you must act now to ensure meals continue for the 2022-23 school year. Please complete the 2022-2023 online application at your earliest. A link to the application is also available on the district website, and paper applications are accessible at your student’s school.
Completing an application is the only way to be considered for free or reduced meals for the upcoming school year.
If you do not qualify for free or reduced meals, you may begin depositing money into your student’s account at any time in preparation for the 2022-23 school year. If your student has a negative meal account balance, please pay the remainder as soon as possible before depositing money into the account.
Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year are listed below.
Elementary Middle School High School
Breakfast Meal Price $ 1.50 $ 1.50 $ 1.50
Lunch Meal Price $ 3.00 $ 3.25 $ 3.25
For assistance, please contact our Food and Nutrition Services Department at 248-726-4602. We look forward to meeting your student’s nutritional needs for the 2022-23 school year.

Calling all Robot & Lego Fans!
Rochester High School FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Team, the FEDS, will be offering FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics to Kindergarten through Fifth grades. The meetings will be held at individual Elementary Schools. We expect all of our meetings will be in-person and that we will follow all applicable Covid precautions.
Students will engage in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a robot that navigates the missions of a game. They will also design an innovative solution to a real-world problem relevant to the theme.
FLL Explore - Grades K-3
We expect to host multiple FLL Explore teams, each requiring at least 2 Parents to register with FIRST and serve as team coaches. Teams will consist of 2 to 6 students. Students will learn about FIRST Core Values, Teamwork, Problem Solving, while they Design, Build, Program and Test a Robot capable of executing the challenge. At the end of the season in early December the FEDS will host a celebration for all of the FLL Teams they sponsor.
FLL Challenge - Grades 4 & 5
We expect to host multiple FLL Challenge teams, each requiring at least 3 Parents to register with FIRST and serve as team coaches. Teams will consist of up to 8 students. Teams will compete in a head to head (robot to robot) competition to be held at local high schools in late fall. Competitions are in two parts, with the students presenting to judges their innovation project and the robots competing in multiple timed and scored matches with multiple challenges that have been pre-programmed by the students using the Robot.
Cost is $40 per Student
Teams will be assigned by grade level at random. The only way to guarantee your child a spot on a team is to volunteer to be a team coach. All payments are payable to Rochester Community Schools. Questions can be directed to Shishir Gupta at [email protected]

LEGO LEAGUE & ROBOTICS AT LONG MEADOW
We are so excited to be partnering with the Positivity Project again this year.
What is the Positivity Project?
The Positivity Project, also referred to as P2, uses 24 character strengths to help students build positive relationships. Positive relationships are the cornerstone to health, happiness and resilience. Each week all children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will be introduced and explicitly taught the same character strength. Everyone in our Long Meadow family will be provided with the same definition for each character strength. Children will soon be able to “see what the character trait looks like” through the use of videos, books, and discussions.
