PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENT/CONSTRUCTION

The scope of the project is to regrade the slope area near the playground where the runoff from heavy rains runs down the hill into the school near the gymnasium.  The re-grading included a 3’ high retaining wall to control the slope.  Underground drainage will be added to divert the drainage into the existing storm water system.  There will be a fence on top of the retaining wall to prevent kids from jumping off the retaining wall.  The sidewalk leading to the playground will be widened significantly to provide a clearer path and better access to the playground in lieu of the students running up and down the hill.

During the constructions there will be 6' fencing surrounding where the work is being done.

During the construction, students will still have access to the playground equipment.  

Overall Timing Of The Project: March 18th-April 11th
Construction Fencing: March 18th-March 22nd
Improvements/Construction: March 27th-April 11th

POSITIVITY PROJECT AT LONG MEADOW

Next Week's Positivity Character Strength: Social Intelligence

Parents and Guardians,
 
We are so excited to be partnering with the Positivity Project again this year.   
Next week, all children (grades K-5) will introduced Positivity characteristic of Social Intelligence. 
 
This year the Positivity project has developed a family resource connection so that you can be part of Positivity in Action at home.   We have provided the one page character card and age appropriate video based on grade.  Feel free to look at the other resources we well.  These resources will give families the opportunity to continue enriching discussions at home. The family link will include the definition of the character trait we are learning, a short video to watch as a family, and sample discussion questions to continue learning about Positivity in Action at home. ​

 What is the Positivity Project?
The Positivity Project, also referred to as P2, uses 24 character strengths to help students build positive relationships.  Positive relationships are the cornerstone to health, happiness and resilience.  Each week all children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will be introduced and explicitly taught the same character strength.  Everyone in our Long Meadow family will be provided with the same definition for each character strength.  This common language along with classroom instruction tailored to each grade level, will help to provide students with a deeper understanding of each character trait.  Children will soon be able to “see what the character trait looks like” through the use of videos, books, and discussions.  Children will be able to identify character traits in themselves and others. 
 
We are looking forward to working with families joining with us putting Positivity in Actions. Please see the schedule below.

Need Help or Social Emotional Support?

Long Meadow will be updating this section of the Newsletter to provide some social emotion and other supports brought to you by our social worker and school psychologist.

This year has been the year of the parent. Parents have learned to put on a different cap for different times of the day; whether that is their work cap, their childcare cap, their teacher cap... the list goes on. Many times, parents have needed to wear all their hats at once to meet the daily demands of parenting, along with supporting their children as they learn from home. This month’s newsletter is dedicated to our wonderful parents. We must remember that in order to fill our children’s cups, ours must be full first. Please refer to the links below focusing on self care, reducing stress, and promoting mental health.​

​Our RCS social-emotional support teams, which consist of counselors, social workers and psychologists, will be operating in all learning environments, including in-person/temporary remote learning and the RCS Virtual Campus. These highly trained professionals are available for students and families in a variety of settings, and can be contacted through email, in-person or virtual meetings, and phone calls.
